Microsoft Intune Plan 1 is a subscription service that helps organizations manage users and devices that may or may not be affiliated with specific users.  Hence, this includes allowing users within an organization to connect to the company network. In other words, by being connected to the company network, administrators can grant or deny access to users by setting policies with endpoints that are authorized. Microsoft Endpoint Plan 1 is endpoint management through policy control creates a cyber security layer that is versatile enough to transcend traditional mobile device management. Cloud security is integral in this technology focused virtual world. Intune provides this layer of needed protection and the mobility to enhance security features anywhere and on any device.

Subsequently, Intune Plan 1 licenses are based on organizational security requirements. Microsoft Intune Plan 1 licenses are applicable when a device is enrolled through any of the following methods:

• Windows Autopilot Self-Deploying mode
• Apple Device Enrollment Program without user affinity
• Apple School Manager without user affinity
• Apple Configurator without user affinity
• Android Enterprise dedicated
• Using a device enrollment manager account

Plan 1 inclusive features

• Reporting that includes endpoint analytics
• Mobile application management
• Microsoft Configuration Manager
• Built-in Endpoint Security
• Cross-platform endpoint management

Plan 1 license limitations

Most importantly, when a device is enrolled by using a Plan 1 license, the following Intune functions aren’t supported:

• Microsoft Intune firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates
• Microsoft Intune management of specialty devices
• Microsoft Intune Tunnel for Mobile Application Management
• Microsoft Intune Remote Help
• Microsoft Intune Endpoint Privilege Management
• Microsoft Intune Advanced Analytics

Microsoft Intune Plan 1 is a user-based management features, such as email and calendaring are containerized within Intune to allow or disallow functionality and usage dependent on the organizational requirements. In conclusion, Microsoft Intune Plan 1 is no longer an option for the cloud. It is now a requirement in order to keep company data, user information, and organizational assets safe from threats internal and external.  Hence, for an even more enhanced security experience with Intune, there is Microsoft Intune Plan 2.
